Akila’s Escape

Saul Williams leads Charles Officer’s critically acclaimed neo-noir Akilla’s Escape as Akilla Brown, a man forced to confront the violence he thought he had left behind. The film premiered at TIFF and won five Canadian Screen Awards. After capturing a 15-year-old boy following an armed robbery, Akilla is forced to confront a past he has spent years trying to escape. Over one tense night, their encounter pulls him back into a cycle of generational violence he thought he’d escaped.
